In 1953, my grandfather, William Campbell, began manufacturing his own brand of custom made mattresses & box springs to a specific standard. I continue that same practice today.
I begin with an all steel coil innerspring unit. Next I staple a two ounce Fiberlast pad to both sides of the innerspring unit. An eyelet border is then hand sewn to the mattress, which then receives two layers of cotton felt padding on both sides.
We do not use any foam products in the construction of our mattresses or box springs.
A blue and white striped cotton ticking is then sewn to the unit. The mattress is then completed by hand tufting with buttons. Like our mattresses, we believe in manufacturing our box springs with the highest quality components available. Our box spring constructions start with a 1"×4" frame with 1"×3" slats nailed together. The 8 3/4 gauge coils are then fastened to the framework, a 3 gauge border wire is then attached to the coils for added strength. We then finish our box springs with a Fiberlast pad, cotton felt padding and the same Blue/White stripped cotton ticking we use on our mattresses.
At Sunset Mattress Factory, we have always believed in manufacturing our mattresses with the same quality materials on both sides. This allows the consumer to turn and flip their mattress periodically to help extend the life, as well as, the comfort and support of the mattress.
